What I'll do First ( starting with the October 30 meeting of the Santa Rosa City Council )
1) LEGALIZE SLEEP: Homeless people are getting busted by the police for sleeping in their cars, vans & motor homes on Santa Rosa streets. I have a solution. What would it take to allow homeless people with vehicles to park safely overnight in a city-owned parking lot like the one behind city hall? A porta-potty and a dumpster? Between the hrs. of 6pm to 6am? How were the Occupy folks accommodated?
2} STOP FORECLOSURES: Can the city regulate the banks that do business in Santa Rosa? i.e., pass a resolution to prevent foreclosures based on the catch 22 scenerio of foreclosing on a homeowner, taking the property back, selling it for less, and disqualifying the previous owner from buying back their home at the new, lower price - because they have a foreclosure on their record? Did not the public bail the banks out when the depression they caused, caused them to fail? Why can't the banks let the owner stay by re-writing a new, affordable loan? Because
3) PREPARATION: Disasters are coming at us from all directions. We live in a economic disaster that is likely to get worse. What about the way over due big one that may make 1906 look like a picnic? What about the predicted food shortages by August. What about nuclear war or another dozen Chernobles. What can we do about it? We have a solution. What can the city do to be more prepared for natural disasters? Civil unrest? How about a dispersed network of storage containers full of shelter supplies including tents, cots, bedding, food, water, first aid, bicycles and communication devices. Specialist storage containers which can house fully equipped kitchens, hospitals, morgues?
4) CLIMATE CHANGE: Say no more, most of us are aware of the 90 degree days in mid October. The old folks on the steps and porches of America and here in beautiful Santa Rosa are noticing it. Do you remember a heat wave in October? Hell no. We have a solution. How much does the city spend on lawns, incl. installing and maintenance? How much of city properties, including golf courses, if any, are covered in lawn? How many employee hrs. are dedicated to maintaining lawns? How much water, lawn food and pesticide is used annually to water lawns? What does it cost?
5) PEAK OIL: The time when you could drill a well and have crude oil spurt out of the ground. Let's face it. We're running out of Oil. This why the Saudis are building the largest solar panel array on earth in the middle of the desert. They need huge amounts of electricity to run the pumps to suck the last remnants of oil out of the ground. So, what happens when we run out of oil both foreign and domestic? Only one country has faced that scenario called Peak Oil: Cuba. Find and watch a documentary called, "How Cuba Survived Peak Oil." It's what we'll and every other country will have to do to survive. And no, it doesn't involve becoming a Socialist or Communist state. But, if we do nothing, we will become a fascist or Nazi state. It's already happening as evidenced by that son of a Bush's Homeland Security. Homeland, by the way, is what the Germans called their country during Nazi rule.
